Every woman remembers the day that her engagement ring is put on her finger. She sees him go down on one knee, the ring comes out, and then everything else turns into a wave of emotion. You are getting married to the man that you love and you have a diamond engagement ring to show everyone that you are indeed the woman of his dreams.
Many people are so excited to wear their new and shiny ring that they forget just how expensive it would be to replace it should something happen to it. When you think about insurance, you typically think about insuring your car and your home because they are such large investments. However, diamond engagement rings are just as important to insure as any of your larger items.
When you are getting ready to insure your ring, you may want to consider a company that specializes in this type of insurance. You can either do a Google search or even ask the dealer where the ring was purchased at to recommend someone. Be sure to research them thoroughly to make sure that the company pays on claims.
The second way to get your diamond engagement ring insured would be to put a rider on your current homeowner insurance policy (also called an insurance extension). You will have to check with your agent to see if they offer this policy or if the policy is as thorough as you need it to be. While you can save on opening another policy up, you may decide to go with a separate policy because of better coverage.
Before seeking out insurance coverage on your ring, you will want to gather up any receipts and documentation that the jewelry dealer provided with your purchase. You will also need to get an appraisal to verify the value of your ring. Seek out an appraiser independent from your insurance company to make sure that you are getting a fair assessment.
